Wednesday morning as I walked in the park I came upon 12 women running while pushing a stroller in front of them. Then they did exercises while singing kid songs to their toddlers. Their leader--part drill sergeant, part compassionate companion-- also had a stroller with a child onboard. They were part of an exercise class called Stroller Strides. I loved the idea. Here's why:
Moms exercising while being Moms is healthy.
Moms are role-modeling health for their young.
Moms are socializing with other Moms.
There is a support net potential that goes
beyond the exercise class and can lead to lunch,
phone calls, help questions,etc.
Moms are outdoors as are their children.
Moms are balancing their parental and personal
responsibilities.
I applaud them and this wonderful, simple, constructive and healthy program. It is a win-win-win for all involved and a lesson for us all.
Bye For Now,
Bill
